Forget about everything you’ve been told about website marketing. Up until 2011, the rules were pretty clear – put your info on your site and they will come.
Thank you Big Brother (Google) for changing up the playing field. It had been leveled and the rules are now pretty clear -IF you want your website to have a chance to compete for any coveted SERP spots.
- Roll up your sleeves. Google is not handing out brownie points for websites that have gone stale. Points are awarded based on relevant fresh content.
- Offer your visitors guidance. Web visitors are getting greedier and greedier as the push to the Internet draws us in deeper. If you are reading this and nodding, you know exactly what I mean.
- STOP selling. People coming to your site already know that you are selling something. Stop putting it in your content. Have great calls to action but keep the content focused on the reader. There is no bigger turnoff.
We are operating under the rules of Google Panda and Penguin. Sorry, the days of one and over are long gone. If you don’t stay on top of your site, you make it increasingly easier for someone not afraid of elbow grease to come knock you off – and take away your prospective clients.
