Social Media for the Job Seeker

Harness the Power of Social Media to Find Your Dream Job

Perhaps you’ve been wondering what this Social Media business is all about. No doubt, you’ve heard mention of FACEBOOK and TWITTER on the news or from your kids. But did you know there’s a whole lot more to Social Media then just kids playing around on the internet? We owe alot to these kids who have pioneered a new way of communicating on line. They’ve made it possible for us business people to collaborate better and faster. To do what we love to do best in the business world – get our ideas recognized faster and to get a little bit of help shaping them.

In today’s connected world, applying for a job through a public job board is only step one. This is the formal “red-tape” method of applying and you can’t get around that. HR departments wouldn’t like it. Unfortunately, I bet you didn’t know, that there are many job seekers out there who use the job boards to “spam” employers’ job postings and will submit hundreds of resumes a day. Employers know this, hand have difficulty sifting through the hundreds of applicants just to get the otghe few valid candidates that they are looking for. When I was a restaurant manager, I would receive hundreds of resumes a day for each new job posting. Only several of those hundreds actually related to the posting or the job. Set yourself apart and get through that sifter by utilizing Social Media.

Our Social Media 101 (SM-101) course is designed with you in mind. Learn how to leverage the power of this communication monster to:

  • Get noticed by employers
  • Show off your subject matter expertise
  • Get invited in for an interview
  • Find the perfect job
  • Templates for written Social Media correspondence included with workbook

Believe it or not, the response on properly used social media tactics is fantastic! Partly because employers are not put on the defensive from these professional tactics and partly because you are a real person who is genuinely interested in the position and actually read their job posting. You can save employers lots of time by using our hints! This gets you noticed and speeds the opportunity to an interview.

Manage your Social Media reputation during your job search. Many employers are hitting these sites to see what kind of person you are. Make sure there is nothing posted out there that, as my mother used to say, “You wouldn’t want seen on the front page of the newspaper”. Show caution and class with your social sites. It’s ok to share about yourself out there, and you should, just keep it PG rated.
